The purpose of this 3-day course is to introduce SharePoint 2007 professionals to the new features of Server 2010 and to provide training on the process of upgrading SharePoint 2007 farms to SharePoint 2010. The course covers a wide range to topics that include all the new capabilities of SharePoint 2010.

Target Audience

The class is designed for experienced administrators, designers, and developers of SharePoint 2007. The course covers material in all of these areas and is suitable for all SharePoint professionals.

 

Prerequisites

Experience administering, developing, or designing on SharePoint 2007 is required.

 
1. SharePoint 2010 Overview
This introductory chapter provides an overview of the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 environment and its underlying components.
 
2. What’s New in the User Interface
This chapter explores the new UI features of SharePoint 2010 including accessibility, cross-browser compatibility, and the Ribbon interface.

 

3. What’s New with Enterprise Content Management
This chapter covers new features related to document management and records management such as multi-item check-in/check-out, document sets, and in-place records management.
 
4. What's New with Social Computing
This chapter explains the new features of social computing in SharePoint 2010 including management of colleagues, tagging, and user profiles.
 
5. What’s New with Enterprise Search
This chapter examines the new functionality in SharePoint Search including new crawl types, new server role topology, and integration with FAST servers.
 
6. What's New with Office Integration
This chapter introduces the improvements in collaborative integration between Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 and also covers the new Office Web Applications.
 
7. What’s New with SharePoint Designer 2010
This chapter reviews the changes in SharePoint Designer 2010 and what they mean for web masters and users.
 
8. What’s New with Farm Administration
This chapter explores the new functionality available through Central Administration and PowerShell including manageability, logging, reporting, disaster recovery, and security.
 
9. What’s New for Developers
This chapter covers the changes to the SharePoint object model libraries, sandboxed solutions, and improvements in Visual Studio 2010.
 
10. Upgrade Preparation
This chapter covers what organizations need to know in order to plan and prepare for upgrading to SharePoint 2010.
 
11. SharePoint 2010 Installation
This chapter covers discusses the steps for installing and configuring SharePoint 2010 either as a new farm or as part of an upgrade effort.
 
12. In-Place Upgrade
This chapter walks students through the process of performing an In-Place Upgrade.
 
13. Database Attach Upgrade
This chapter takes students through the steps to migrate content to SharePoint 2010 by copying SQL Server databases and attaching them to a new SharePoint farm.
 
14. Post-Upgrade Steps
